LES RALLIZES DENUDES BLIND BABY HAS ITS MOTHER'S EYES (180g)

The legendary Japanese hard rock group LES RALLIZES DENUDES formed in 1967 & only released one official record despite playing deep into the 1990s. A few live recordings exist that have been bootlegged countless times over the last few decades including this Phoenix vinyl edition. The band is known for their feedback laden guitar fuzz with bluesy tendencies. Think BLUES CREATION, HIGH RISE, STOOGES, MC5, VELVET UNDERGROUND & even some GRATEFUL DEAD jamming. Currently bands like WOODEN SHJIPS are carrying the 'RALLIZES' torch with their repetitive jams & echoed vocals. These are definitely some of the most exciting LP reissues of 2010 so don't miss out on these noise-rock classics!

BOTTOMLESS PIT BLOOD UNDER THE BRIDGE (2LP W/ CD)
Bottomless Pit
This is the third release from Chicago's BOTTOMLESS PIT & without a doubt the most focused group of songs these guys have put to tape. Ex-SILKWORM members Tim Midgett & Andy Cohen have been playing together for quite awhile now & they're musical interactions are so fluid & make so much sense that it's easy not to notice how complicated the playing actually is. Fidelity has been a concern for these guys since the SILKWORM days & all the BOTTOMLESS PIT records sound great but this one in our opinion sounds the best. Many of the songs feature clean guitars with tightly recorded drum sounds & dry-as-they-can-be vocals. There are a few rockers though with Cohen straining his voice at times & the group waving their Crazy Horse flag proudly. This album has a lot of variety & you'll find that it's ending just as you're getting into it, a true sign of an excellent record. Yeah, some of this reminds us of SILKWORM, some things going all the way back to "Libertine" but we want to make clear, this is album is 100% BOTTOMLESS PIT & it's one of the best indie rock records that will come out in 2010. The band spared no expense on the beautiful vinyl edition with a thick gatefold sleeve, 45RPM LPS for optimum fidelity & full-color printed inner sleeves.

GIRLS OF THE GRAVITRON MAGNETIC MOUNTAIN (IMP, LIMITED TO 500)

Memphis seems to be the setting for a burgeoning indie rock and garage scene ushered along with the help of Goner Records, the eclectic and prolific Magic Kids, and Jay Reatard. This group features members of Barbaras, Kazalok, Magic Kids (Matador Records), and several of the members also occasionally contribute to the San Diego outfit Wavves. Girls of the Gravitron even planned to have a release on Jay Reatard's Shattered Records label before he passed away. Lo-fi and fuzzy hooks intermingle with second-hand keyboards and the singers deadpan delivery. Fans of Blank Dogs, Times New Viking, or any of the above mentioned groups will surely appreciate this. Also, look for their "Malthusian Lovesong" 45 on Boom Chick Records. This LP is pressed in Germany and limited to 500 copies.

Dearest Listener, The tremendously hyped Best Coast full-length is finally here. Accolades we are bestowing on "Crazy For You" are best summer album, best make out album, and best album to ride a bike to in the year 2010. Both Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno have crafted undeniable, sun soaked jams that you will either love or pretend not to love for the sake of your "cred." We understand. Our only apprehension here is the amount of attention Best Coast is getting these days. The next release, whatever it may sound like and whenever it may come out will be under a fair amount of scrutiny. However, lets not think about the future, that would degrade the explicit missions of this album - being care free, stoned, and in between love(s). Thank you Best Coast and Mexican Summer. VARIOUS ARTISTS SAIGON ROCK & SOUL: (2LP, LIMITED ED.) VIETNAMESE CLASSIC TRACKS 1968-1974
Sublime Frequencies
Holy cow. This 2LP collection from Sublime Frequencies might be the best one yet. Over 70 minutes of Vietnamese rock & soul compiled by Sublime Frequencies' Mark Gergis from 1968-1974. The Western influence on late 60's Vietnam doesn't really need to be discussed & it's not surprising that the music American soldiers were blasting around the country influenced Vietnamese groups at the time. James Brown was an early large influence on the music there & soon after that bands like THE BEATLES, ROLLING STONES, VENTURES & SHADOWS creeped into the mix. Sure, the Western influence is evident but many of these bands were really onto something unique which you'll quickly realize while listening to this collection. Beautiful gatefold sleeve with informative liner notes. Get this one now because it won't last long.

LYNCH, JULIAN MARE
Olde English Spellin
Second full-length album from the New Jersey based songwriter Julian Lynch. Expanding on the groundwork that he layed out on "Orange You Glad", Lynch has created a fantastic album of downer indie folk with interesting noise & ambient textures mixed in. The songs are simple but deceptively so, after a few listens you realize that there's a lot more going on than you realized the first time through. The lo-fi atmosphere serves Lynch well, much better than most of the bedroom folk records that are popping up like crazy these days. This reminds us of everything from WOODS to ATLAS SOUND to even GRIS GRIS at times & it's easy to imagine that with a larger recording budget, some of these songs might even sit well on a RADIOHEAD album. Defintely one of the coolest summer albums of 2010.

VOIGT, WOLFGANG FREILAND KLAVIERMUSIK (IMP)

WOLFGANG VOIGT's GAS project is his most well-known, but for some of us, his long-dormant FREILAND work (and his PROFAN label) are his most adventurous and groundbreaking. FREILAND KLAVIERMUSIK is like nothing else you've ever heard. Bold and blocky, this is as close as minimal techno and 20th Century piano get to each other. Relentless piano melodies anchored to a monolithic, doomy kick-drum will have you headbanging like you're listening to BLACK SABBATH's PARANOID (okay, maybe not everybody), followed by many variations on this theme that sound like "9 to 5" (minus Dolly's vox), CONLIN NANCARROW and some of MORRICONE's pounding piano forays. Rhythmic experiments are carried out to their logical ends, which will have some running for the hills and others will wanting to start up a new religion on the spot. Count me in the latter category, as I think this is one of the most exciting pieces of work since the turn of the millenium. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE but not for the timid. TASTE THE FUTURE!!!

MASTODON LEVIATHAN (GATEFOLD, COLORED VINYL)

The mighty Mastadon are back! Does it get any better than this; the follow up release to the amazing "Re- mission" not only solidifies Mastodon as one of the best metal bands around right now, but "Leviathan" is also a concept album based entirely around the story of "Moby Dick." This album is overall much cleaner production-wise than the very dirty "Remission" but that only helps to highlight one of the best things about this band, the totally out of control drumming. Seriously this guy is insane. Some of the songs are borderline "catchy" which might turn some people off but the mathy parts are still there to throw things off. This also might be the best artwork on a record this year. Herman Melville is moshing in his grave!!!!

VARIOUS ARTISTS TO SCRATCH YOUR HEART (IMP, 4LPS) EARLY RECORDINGS FROM ISTANBUL
Honest Jon's
Archival recordings from the first three decades of the 20th century made by the Gramophon Company & HMV. The folk music of the time was a mix of Turk, Greek, Armenian, Muslim, Christian, Jew, urban dwellers & country poeples. Most of the singing is in the Gazel form, an improvised vocal style that has been slowly fading out of existence. All of the music was meticulously remixed at Abbey Road & comes with a thick book of liner notes & rare photos. Another incredible release from Honest Jons. Luxurious vinyl version pressed on 4LPS each in their own individual sleeve all housed in a heavy cardboard box.
