Ah, the plight of the independent label. ENON's last album, BELIEVIO was an uncanny mix of pop, punk, and art-rock, leaving many scratching their heads, and wondering just what the hell were they all about. It was also a flagship album for D. SARDY's SEE THRU BROADCASTING label. Enon was all set to release HIGH SOCIETY on SARDY's label last year, when out of nowhere, the label went belly up. With that, TOUCH & GO stepped up and decided to release said album. HIGH SOCIETY is an infectious mix of all things that you can't catagorize, pigeon-hole, or pin down. One second, it's chunky rock a la QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, the next TOKO YASUDA (LAPSE, BLONDE REDHEAD) steps up to add her sweet vocals to a funky breakbeat. Out of nowhere comes a CARDIGANS style pop gem, and then who knows where else it will go. The result is something you'll never put your finger on, but then again, that same finger will probably be hitting repeat once the album is over. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
