Seattle's Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius, releases this gentle batch of dark narrative tales accompanied by vocal and piano forming personal indie-canticles. "Learning" is an appropriate debut, stripped down and melodic, Hadreas seems like someone coming into his own and developing his skills. Wrecked with the longing that only your early 20s can produce, this album is interesting because of the breathing room and airy atmosphere created. Restrain is not necessarily something most artists value or attain, so to see it here with such a young musician (on his first album no less!) is a treat. Thom Yorke and Bon Iver fans, enjoy! On Matador Records.
