Yes, this is the first PORTISHEAD album since 1997's self-titled (amazing) depress-fest. Yes, this album is also amazing. Yes, it sounds different than the "trip hop" sound that made them famous. But, it wouldn't be like PORTISHEAD to just re-hash a sound they've already exhausted. On "Third", the trio puts all other recent "electronica" bands to shame with a bizarre but entirely catchy take on odd sounds, unconventional arrangements, & every- thing from huge, bass-filled drums to simple guitar & strings. This group manages to sound like no one at all, even when everyone else seems to rip them off. Simply amazing and totally RECOMMENDED!!!!
