Quasi's debut full length for Chicago's Touch & Go label. The portland duo of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss (drummer from Sleater-Keeney) have been putting out these strange and sort-of ignored but incredible pop records for years and shoring up their committment to their personally styled piano/analog keyboards fronted rock. Part BUILT TO SPILL (vocals), part ELLIOTT SMITH (song styles) and Part really like nothing else. The vocals between Sam and Janet exchange with a sort-of heavenliness that softly augments the fast piano/synth rhythms that make you think that if ENO were still making great pop records and somehow collaborated with REO SPEEDWAGON, than this would be the result. Add slow jazz segments, instrumental cartoon-paced freakouts, multiple layered guitar solos and bagpipe ambience and you have rock pomp and it's basest and most enjoyable. "You don't have to be a pro to play". So utterly good and very Recommended!!!!!!!

Underneath it all lies some of the trippiest Madlib productions to date...turns out dude was sitting on his sickest slickness from his 5 grand Brazillian vinyl grab even when he did "Madvillainy." QUASIMOTO's debut album (really, this is MADLIB from LOOTPACK, with assistance from KUT MASTA KURT & PEANUT BUTTER WOLF) is one of a handful this year to earn instant classic status. One of the most inventive mixes of high-velocity narrative rhymes (thanks to the vocals being artificially sped up --think KOOL KEITH on helium) and ultra-rare, ultra-skilled DJ production to come around since 1995's DR. OCTAGON project. On Stones Throw records (part of the Nu Gruv Alliance), this is one record that you need if you're serious about the cutting edge of hip-hop. 2005 deluxe edition features a bonus instrumentals disc for the same price.
