QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
ERA VULGARIS
INTERSCOPE
A fairly melodic affair for Josh Homme & the boys & that's a good thing. Pure & simple, there's some great songs on here with some pretty impressive vocal harmonies. This is a positive step forward for these guys & who knows maybe their next album will sound like "Abbey Road" or something.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
LULLABIES TO PARALYZE (EXPLICIT)
INTERSCOPE
With the departure of NICK OLIVERI, the question rings "Can Josh Homme go it alone?" While "Lullabies..." does lack the initial wallop of "Songs For The Deaf," the insidious sneakiness of "Rated R," it does maintain the minimalist sexy swagger of the first release. There are moments when Homme sounds like he's trying to do a Prince impression over a desert punk band, but it kind of works. There are re-workings of DESSERT SESSIONS songs, and in the end he's pulled it off. If this is his weakest moment, then he's still running circles around 500 other bands on the radio today. Features some help from MARK LANNEGAN, SHIRLEY MANSON, BRODE DALLE, and BILLY GIBBONS (ZZ TOP)

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
SONGS FOR THE DEAF (EXPLICIT) :(SINGLE CD VERSION)
INTERSCOPE
Without question, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE is the finest HARD ROCK band going right now. There's no posturing by these guys, no collaborations with DJ PREMIER, none of the fake suburbanite garbage that's made hard rock so lame as of late. They let the music speak for itself, and they never show any teeth. "Songs for the Deaf" finds leaders JOSH HOMME (KYUSS, SCREAMING TREES) and NICK OLIVERI (KYUSS, DWARVES) teaming up with DAVE GROHL on drums (perhaps his best drum work since the NIRVANA days), and vocalist MARK LANEGAN to create an album--okay, a loose concept album on the pathetic state of modern-day radio--of flawless beauty. It's so nice to get a refreshing reminder of all the things you love about Hard Rock (the sweat, the balls, the sheer energy), and at a time when those things get so overlooked by vanity, and acceptance...well, you get the idea. H I G H L Y R E C O M M E N D E D!
