"Journey to X" is the 2nd full-length album by the London group BRAINIAC 5 since they reformed in 2012. The band got their start in the late 70's in Cornwall & later moved to London where they honed their sound which was a mix of punk & psych rock with hints of reggae & jazz. They've added a new drummer this time around which gives the record a beefier feel than the last one but the group's sense of melody & song craft is as strong as ever. Imagine a mix of mid-period DAMNED, SOFT BOYS & WIRE with some excellent psychedelic guitar soloing & you should have a good idea what to expect. Look out for more on the Reckless label soon!

Some of our customers might not be aware of the fact that Reckless had a label in the 80's & 90's with releases by bands such as BEVIS FROND, BLACK SUN ENSEMBLE & CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN. The label was reborn in 2014 with a CD compilation for BRAINIAC 5, a late 70's UK art-punk group fronted by Reckless owner Charles Taylor. The band has officially reformed in 2012 & this is their 3rd album since then. The group continues to explore the realm of post-punk & art rock with hints of PERE UBU, WIRE & SOFT BOYS with subtle hints of progressive & jazz mixed in. RECOMMENDED OF COURSE!

After a lengthy hiatus, The Reckless Record label is back up & running. Our first release of this century is from BRAINIAC 5, a group that formed in Cornwall in the late 70's, eventually disbanded in the early 80's & just recently, started playing together again. This CD includes their early singles including some tracks that would eventually appear on their 1988 Reckless LP "World Inside." The group worked hard during their brief existence, playing residencies at a variety of clubs along with some prominent festival appearances. The group drew affluence from many musical territories including punk, reggae, rock & roll, jazz & more definitely giving their music a unique sound. Imagine a combination of early post-punk like WIRE & THE DAMNED with hints of the 70's British psychedelic resurgence ala SOFT BOYS & American psych rock like QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE. The book has extensive liner notes, reproductions of show fliers & rare photos. Hopefully this is a just a hint of great things to come from our reborn label!!

With a ridiculous list of guest contributors including members of THE ATTACK, SCREAMING LORD SUTCH & Reckless London house band THE BRAINIAC 5, the group has created another solid collection of psychedelic leaning rock tunes with excellent lead guitar playing.
