"Body Copy" is the second album from the Chicago ex-pat Laura Callier aka GEL SET & her first for the great 2MR label. Callier's recording & production techniques have improved since the last one but her music still has a charming, almost bedroom recording quality to it. Her singing is soft & almost spoken & the minimalist post-techno sequences are melodic & inviting. Think THROBBING GRISTLE minimalism, the pop sensibilities of 2MR label mate Kedr Livanskiy, KAREN NOVOTNY X etc... RECOMMENDED.

We don't exactly know what the attraction to android, bionic women is in the year 2010 (see Erykah Badu, Kelis, Janelle Monae), but it's definitely working for them. Is it possible to derive substance from such a produced, lyrically down-played album? Maybe. If you enjoyed "Body Talk Pt 1" then you will be able to look past this second volume of dance worthy tracks. pitfalls and weak points. Look for contributions by Diplo (on "Criminal Intent") and Snoop Dogg (on "U Should Know Better") From the 80s, electronic opening number to the ballad closer this is Robyn's direction and wheelhouse. Look for her live show... nothing compares to her live set not even her albums.

Second album from this Rhode Island duo. The album begins with a dark but beautiful chorus provided by the Assembly of Light Choir. After about 7 minutes, the album explodes into a fireball of crushing doom. The choir adds flourishes here & there but once the band kicks in, it's a pretty relentless affair. The album reminds us of everything from JESU, to SUNN O))), to HARVEY MILK to BLOODY PANDA, & so on. Honestly, the record is stylistically hard to pin down & we have to say that the group has managed to concoct a very unique album.

Glitchy R&B from Philly's Christopher Taylor, aka BODY MEAT. Taylor's disjointed production takes pages from IDM, jungle and footwork, while layering on a heavily auto-tuned vocal to create an alien atmosphere. Also featuring contributions from new age luminary LARAAJI, this comes RECOMMENDED.

Cool collaboration between BODY/HEAD (the combo of Kim Gordon and Bill Nace) and ex-WOLF EYES member Aaron Dilloway, who manipulate guitars and vocals into vast and expansive psychedelic tape experiments. Really nice and spacious stuff that can change on a dime!
