OLSEN, ANGEL
ALL MIRRORS
Jagjaguwar
It's been a wonder to track the ascenscion of Chicago expat ANGEL OLSEN from the haunting and enigmatic country hymns on "Strange Cacti" to the raw nerve garage pop of "My Woman". In that time she's become one of the biggest draws in indie rock, the seemingly gravitational pull of her music making itself known by the volume of records sold here and the enthusiasm shared by Reckless customers and staff alike. Three years now after "My Woman", OLSEN triumphantly returns with an imposing and rewarding double album in "All Mirrors". Richly orchestrated with strings, synths and piano, and rooted with reverb'd, stadium ready drums, this is the most overt and meticulous record of her career. But like all of her music, what remains front and center is OLSEN's voice: simultaneously delicate, rich, aching, sultry, vulnerable and defiant. The songs on "All Mirrors" seem to fit like puzzle pieces in your brain, like the pattern was there - it just needed to be made by someone. You don't need me to tell you, but this one is HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

OLSEN, ANGEL
MY WOMAN
JAGJAGUWAR
We find it hard to believe that anybody who's been following the arc of Chicago ex-pat Angel Olsen's career is surprised by her success. There aren't many singers out there with pipes like hers & it certainly doesn't hurt that she's a fantastic songwriter too. In a few interviews that we've read leading up to the release of her 2016 album "My Woman", Olsen has made it clear that she's trying to leave behind the "sad girl" persona that many journalist have tagged her with over the years. There's no doubt, Angel has never sounded more confident & sure of her self than she does on this record. We've always thought Angel's songs would fit perfectly in the background of a David Lynch film & though things are a little more slick this time around, Angel & the band haven't lost that raw, almost 60's girl group rock & roll sound that's so infectious. We couldn't be more excited about this record, especially because of former employee Emily Elhaj's album debut! This is just more proof that Angel Olsen is a shooting star that's just gaining more & more momentum. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE!!!

OLSEN, ANGEL
BURN YOUR FIRE FOR NO WITNESS
Jagjaguwar
2014 album from ANGEL OLSEN is the one . . . this is the one that's going to make (even more) people pay attention to her incredible songwriting ability. She transcends your typical singer-songwriter by bridging the worlds of folk, psych, country & more into her own style. After "Burn Your Fire," OLSEN deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as CAT POWER, NEKO CASE, PJ HARVEY & look at that . . . we just mentioned her in the same breath as all of those other extra- ordinary women. This couldn't be any more RECOMMENDED!
