FORD, JIM
HARLAN COUNTY
:(LIGHT IN THE ATTIC REISSUE)
LIGHTINTHE
We're quite excited to stock the reissue of this 1969 'lost album' from L.A. via Kentucky musician Jim Ford. Supposedly Ford was just a few steps away from signing to Atlantic Records & was a seasoned vet in the L.A. scene having written songs for Bobby Womack, Aretha Franklin, TEMPTATIONS & even appeared on Sly & the Family Stone's 'There's a Riot Goin' On', but we all know how these stories sometimes go, it just wasn't meant to be. "Harlan County" was released in 1969 to little fanfair & Ford's career never really took off. The album is incredibly strong though & has been long regarded as an L.A. 'studio scene' classic. The album is surprisingly successful blend of country, soul, blues & rock, a blend that sounds incredibly effortless. It's hard to pin down what it all sounds like but imagine a country-fied version of Dr. John or Van Morrison with a more outsider edge. Light in the Attic continues to knock em' out of the park.
