PRETEEN WEAPONRY
JAGJAGUWAR
ONEIDA have always done a good job of altering their sound enough to remain vital while at the same time not changing their sound too much to alienate their solid fan base. Those of you that are familiar with their earliest recordings will probably be psyched to hear that this is their jammiest, most 'out' release in some time. Essentially, the album is one 40 minute jam broken down into three sections. Starting off with some warm & pulsing guitars, the album quickly moves into a rhythmic kraut-rock sounding jam complete with some technical drumming. The second part is a slower paced drone with some almost tribal drumming which becomes much more interesting when the almost THURSTON MOORE esque vocals arrive. The final part is the most upbeat of the three with droning keyboards, fast NEU-like drumming & some BOREDOMS sounding electronic trickery. This is another interesting addition to the already vast arsenal of releases that ONEIDA has compiled in just a few years.

SECRET WARS
JAGJAGUWAR
ONEIDA's 7th release is a doozey. Just as spastic and minimal as their masterpiece "Each one, teach one" with a more accessable vocal sound and hooks that rip through your ear and drag you along. True, there is no more Papa Crazy. However, PAVEMENT thrived when Gary Young left. Was this record named after the comic book series that destroyed the Marvel universe and gave us a black Spider Man? Or, was inspired by some war on terror? Who knows. Who really cares when your banging your head so hard to this swelling tornado of sound. They've crept away from AMON DUUL and more into a BRAINTICKET kinda vein. This band is perfect. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

WEDDING
JAGJAGUWAR
Progress, progress, progress. String sections & nice vocal harmonies. Melody. You can hear all of this on Oneida's 2005 release "The Wedding." These guys do a nice job of revisting elements of sixties psychedelic pop music and mixing them with their interesting for- ward thinking style. There are moments that might remind you of MAGIC HOUR, specifically in the vocal department & I can't help but be reminded of THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE'S similar ability to blend retro sounds with a modern approach. A very cool record.

ONEIDA & RHYS CHATHAM
WHAT'S YOUR SIGN?
NORTHERNSP
Post-rock legends ONEIDA team up with the accomplished multi-instrumentalist RHYS CHATHAM for a proper, free- psych-rock album after first performing together at the Ecstatic Music Festival back in 2012. To say that ONEIDA & CHATHAM are a experimental-rock match made in heaven would be an understatement!
