Sharon Van Etten's 2012 album "Tramp" was a true breakthrough for the talented singer/songwriter & "Are We There" solidifies Van Etten & as legitimate force in contemporary music. The songs move with ease between ballads & rockers & every song has a rich drama. The album does feel like a logical extension of "Tramp" & for many reasons PJ Harvey's "Stories From the City, Stories from The Sea" kept popping into this reviewers head the first time through. Van Etten's voice has a longing to it that can really pull on your heart strings, similar to Chicago ex-pat Angel Olsen & at times on "Are We There", Van Etten even reaches a Neko Case level (the highest level?) of emotion with her incredible voice. Without a doubt, this is going to be on many 2014 year end lists. AMAZING.

Sharon Van Etten has been one of the best songwriters for the past decade or so & "We've Been Going About This All Wrong" is her 6th album. Recorded at her home in L.A. this one is a slightly darker album which isn't surprising as it was recorded during the pandemic. Most of the songs are synth driven pop songs with deep & introspective lyrics. RECOMMENDED.
