Attempting to seperate the lush chamber elements and 90's influenced distortion from Chicago's Smashing Pumpkins and L.A.'s Silversun Pickups is a waste of time. There's no two ways about it, "Swoon" and "Siamese Dream" have a lot of the same endearing qualities in common. Obviously, the time between the two albums gives some room for invention and stylistic differences, but they essentially are catchy, pretty rock albums with breakbeat drumming, swooning (sorry) vocals, and the occassional female fronted track. Sound familiar? With all the comparisons aside, "Swoon" holds its own as a great album with original aspects, but we think the comparisons are welcomed by the band and their listeners. For fans of the aforementioned, U2, Radiohead, or the more poppy tracks from My Bloody Valentine. On Dangerbird Records.
