Modern Country, according to Mr. Tyler himself, is a "love letter to what we are losing in America- to what we've already lost." Rooted firmly in American folk tradition with a deep pocket full of outsider influences, William Tyler's fingerpicking work alone is enough to blow the socks off just about every one attempting the style nowadays. Tyler paints vivid images of sweeping plains, dusty front porches, and endless highways. More sonically dense than his last outing, we were surprised to hear a 70's German "kosmische" feel- This record should appeal to fans of Neu' 75 & Popol Vuh's Letzte Tage Letzte Nachte, as well as Fahey's early stuff / Jim O'Rourke's Bad Timing. Extremely pleasant and easy going, perfect for a sunny afternoon outside.
