It's like you can feel it in the air, Chicago - there's a brand new WILCO record upon us, and it's a good one. After a few albums of acoustic sketches, solo projects and sonic detours into full-on country music, Tweedy & Co. lock into a solid art pop groove on 'Cousin,' festooned with synths, drum machines (that only compliment Glenn Kotche's brilliance behind the kit) and jagged bursts of noise that harken back to the band's underrated 'The Whole Love' era. There's almost a krautrock feel here, even on the more subdued tracks, with Tweedy & producer CATE LE BON making masterful use of repetition to build & release tension in a way that ensures these songs will slot in to the band's legendary live sets like a charm. Do we even have to say it? This is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

2011 release from the much-beloved WILCO, this time self-released and self-recorded. A perfect summation of all their previous sounds, this record features experimental squalls, lonesome C&W, outsider folk, deep grooves and exquisite guitar lines. Yet everything is in service to the wonderfully familiar yet surprisingly new songwriting of the band and Jeff Tweedy's voice. If you've made up your mind to Wilco, there's not much else we can do, but if you're on the fence you should definitely check this out. Obviously, fans will love it. RECOMMENDED VERY HIGHLY!!!

2009's album from WILCO is another stunner, perfectly melding Jeff Tweedy's everyman singer-songwriter tropes to the band's sophisticated arrangements that lean more towards 70s AOR, all shot through with flashes of the avant-garde and noise-rock. The hell and high water that Wilco has gone through to see this album's release would destroy most bands. But the team of Tweedy, Stirrat, and newbies Glenn Kotche and Leroy Bach aren't just releasing your average record: they are releasing the most important album of their career (and quite possibly the year). Top to bottom the album is a flawless piece of rock joy. Lyrically, Jeff Tweedy is reaching depths that not even Cousteau could touch. Musically, the album bobs n' weaves between Beatles-esque pop, Big Starish rock a touch of mysticism a la Red Red Meat, and just a sprinkle of caustic audio-verite (most likely due to Jim O'Rourke's handling). The result? Something that is challenging, daring, and without question beautiful. This band is raising the bar for the music world. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO DON'T BUY ALBUMS THAT ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
