Well this one cd combines many of the tracks that were only released elsewhere on Anticon samplers (which are mostly out-of-print, now) & 12" singles & such, plus a taste of his brand new full-length, "...the other side of the looking glass," as well as several completely exclusive to this cd tracks. If you're familiar with ALIAS, then you absolutely want this; if you're not, start here!

Samuel Beam and Iron and Wine's follow-up to 2007s "The Shepherd's Dog" sounds like the boys have spent a little time in Margaritaville. The direction that "Shepherd's Dog" was hinting to has come to complete fruition on "Kiss Each Other Clean." Perhaps one of the remaining elements From Iron and Wine's older material is Beam's haunting vocals and lyrical content. Long time fans could take this album as a step back, not enjoying the studio tricks, eclectic instrumentation, and "slick" production, however, those interested in an artists development and maturation can be assured this album will keep you on your toes. Love it or hate it, Iron and Wine are in the big leagues now.

Sam Beam is back with his most adventurous album to date. The songs are as strong as ever but he's added some different instrumentation this time around including sitar, 60's sounding 'backmasking', varied percussion & even some effected vocals. If "Creek Drank the Cradle" is his "Pink Moon" then then "Shepherd's Dog" is his "Bryter Layter." This album should appeal to a wide audience but strangely enough we feel like this is a less "adult contemporary" sounding effort than his last. A very strong release.
