The second volume of the CAN live series goes back to 1975 with this killer set from Brighton. CAN's shows were famously mostly improvised & despite the fact that they'd just released "Landed" there isn't really much recognizable from the album. Like the first volume, this sounds surprisingly good considering it's technically a bootleg. Just more proof that these guys were one of the best bands of the 20th century. RECOMMENDED!

CRISP! BOMBASTIC! EXCEPTIONALLY VIBRANT! DFA 1979's 4th LP has officially taken the world of Dance-Punk into the shadow realm. On previous efforts, DFA 1979 worked painstakingly hard to recreate their high energy inner beast that garnered popularity in the early 2000's. But Jesse and Sebastien have reclaimed the band by taking their iconic wall of sound in different directions. IS 4 LOVERS is a quick but powerful flight of love songs that span piano ballads, glitch rock, and electronic signatures. There are still tracks that remind us of Vintage DFA, like "Modern Guy" and "Free Animal". Also this album was produced and recorded entirely in house by the band members. This album was originally slated for a 2020 release, but the band decided to take time to remix and remaster the tracks while the world was healing from the the great plague. Well worth the wait!!! Are you a lover? Apparently this album is 4 U!!!

Tim Hecker's 2011 "Ravedeath, 1974" is built around some recordings that he made over the course of one day using a pipe organ in a church in Reykjavik, Iceland. Hecker then finished the record in a studio, building upon those recordings with washes of reverb, guitars & synths. Hecker sites the concept of sonic decay as a theme for this album & the sounds of the organ are certainly diminished & stripped down into rich swaths of swirling ambience. Some of the tones reach cacophonous levels but there are also plenty of meditative passages that retain the massive reverb of the church in which the organ was recorded. Another incredible album from Tim Hecker.
