2006 album from the legendary UK drone/noise group SKULLFLOWER. High end guitar noise with some occasional melody creeping through that will remind you of EARTH, GATE, DEAD C & some current black metal actually.

"Everything Is Alive" is the sophomore album from SLOWDIVE's incredibly successful 2nd phase. Their 2017 comeback was more present & less "shoegazey" than their original albums & this one follows in those footsteps though they've added more synth textures & acoustic guitars this time around. Neil Halstead & Rachel Goswell share vocal duties almost equally & as always they compliment each other perfectly. Overall we'd say this album is more quiet & dreamy than the last one & there's even a MOGWAI esque instrumental boldly placed 2nd in the album sequence. SLOWDIVE is an all-time Reckless fave so we're quiet excited about this one. RECOMMENDED!

YES! The mighty SLOWDIVE is back in action with a brand new studio long player! The self titled SLOWDIVE is their first recording since 1995's experimental but brilliant PYGMALION, and we are so very glad to have them back. After My Bloody Valentine ended their hiatus in 2007, it seems they opened the floodgates for their noise rock/dream pop contemporaries to reunite, as evidenced by tours from Swervedriver, Lush, Ride, Jesus & Mary Chain, and of course, Slowdive. We are happy to say that they picked up right where they left off- this time with a bit more urgency. Their trademark wash of breathy vocals amongst a sea of verbed out guitar now sits among faster tempos & more active arrangements. Less melancholic & more joyous than their past output, Slowdive is back and (hopefully) here to stay. Now if only we could get a Cocteau Twins reunion!

After a series of more experimental EPs, SONIC YOUTH is back with a full-length that explores in more depth these collusions between 20th century classical and art damage noise rock. Clocking in at a little over 42 minutes, this is a perfect distillation of everything you've ever liked about them.

Sufjan Stevens returns in 2015 with arguably his strongest album to date. The album is named after his mother & stepfather & the record is about as personal as they come. Lowell Brams was only married to Stevens' mother for 5 years, when Stevens was just a child but he's been in his life ever since. (Brams runs the Asthmatic Kitty label.) The album is quiet & sombre, with acoustic driven songs with only subtle backing & we're reminded of other artists like Elliott Smith & BON IVER. "Seven Swans" is the closest comparison from Stevens' past, but this really is a culmination of everything he's done before that makes for a powerful affirmation of his place in contemporary music.

Low-key female vocals over simple songs strengthen the fact that it's MARIA TAYLOR's voice that's the centerpiece here. Think PJ HARVEY, CAT POWER, etc.

London-based trumpeter EMMA-JEAN THACKRAY makes her full-length debut with "Yellow", but this follows a slew of EPs & 12" singles (including a collaboration with MAKAYA McCRAVEN) that has built her reputation in London's vibrant jazz scene. THACKRAY's music draws from more electronic influence like Chicago house, 90s R&B and nu jazz, creating soulful compositions that should appeal to fans of KUNIYUKI, ST GERMAIN, ERYKAH BADU and the more electronic artists on Int'l Anthem like RESAVOIR and DAMON LOCKS. RECOMMENDED!
