This is, according to the group, the first of a four- part series of albums dedicated to the four elements (fire, earth, air, & water), which makes sense because there's four elements to hip hop, too: MCing, graffiti writing, DJing, & breaking. "Fire" is up first, and that's just what the record delivers: heat. Loud production, direct MCing, & excellent structure makes this another winner from the ALL NATURAL crew. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Debut album from ARCADE FIRE; with just a seven inch under the belt, and a tour with the UNICORNS, the group has already garnered much praise. With pop-hooks turned to 11, the group hints at a NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL type of psych-pop with even catchier hooks and richer arrangements. On MERGE.

Fire has done us a favor by reissuing some of the classic albums by the 80s/90s UK neo-psychedelic (not to mention Reckless Records label alumni) group THE BEVIS FROND. They started out as a lo-fi psych rock group & morphed into a more accessible alt-rock band in the 90's. Fans of everything from PINK FAIRIES to DINOSAUR JR & TEENAGE FANCLUB need to hear these great records. RECOMMENDED.

We here at Reckless love the rock. We also love the psychedelic rock. Not only that, we love some boogie rock. "Avatar" is COMETS ON FIRE'S fourth album & their most boogie rock record yet. Sure there's still that MC5 esque ferocity to their music, especially the drums, but they really go Hammond organ heavy on a few tracks giving the album a MAJOR STARS cover DEEP PURPLE sort of vibe. They've also gone sort of jam band on us in a good way though. There's some serious "Jerr-Bear" guitar leads on here & I could have sworn I heard PIGPEN tickling the ivories on a few tracks. (Sorry...) I don't know where Ben Chasny finds the time to play on so many records, scratch that, so many GREAT records. This record definitely has a 70's vibe to it & it's not as ferocious as their previous records but it still shreds in the way you would want it to shred. So fire one up boys & girls cuz COMETS...are back.
