Finally!! "Chrome Dreams" is probably the most legendary of Neil Young's unreleased albums. Widely bootlegged over the years, this amazing collection of songs is finally available as a official, properly mastered release. It's difficult to say why Neil decided to not release this group of songs as planned back in 1977. Most of the songs ended up on other records over the years, most famously "Sedan Delivery", "Pocahontas" & "Powderfinger" which all appeared on "Rust Never Sleeps" in different forms. If it had been released "Chrome Dreams" might have been one of Neil best albums but you could argue the same thing about the other previously unreleased albums "Hitchhiker" & "Homegrown" which is really saying something. This is essential for all Neil heads get it now!

If you ask any Neil head about their favorite bootlegs, this legendary show from the Bottom Line in 1974 will almost certainly come up. The surprise show at this small club was recorded just before the release of the classic On the Beach album & a number of those songs are featured here along with a few other classics. This one is an audience recording so its on the lo-fi side for a legit release but it works for the mellow almost downer vibe of the set list. Some of the stage banter has been sadly cut out including the famous honey slides story but supposedly you can hear that on the archives site. Were so glad this show is finally available in a legit form. RECOMMENDED.

The Neil Young official bootleg series continues, this time with two solo 1971 shows released on the same day. Neil was very busy that year & there's a lot of live recordings out there & these are two more great ones. "Dorothy Chandler Pavilion" is the first in the series that was an actual physical bootleg back in the day hence the cover with the visible ring wear on there.

Neil Young once again digs into his vast archives to release this lost album. The record was originally recorded in 1976 by long time collaborator David Briggs with a basic voice & guitar (except for one piano/vocal tune) set-up. We're not exactly sure why Neil wasn't pleased with this at the time but he's a finicky fella. Thankfully he got over what was bothering him about it & finally released it because it's freaking amazing. Many of the songs popped up on albums like "Comes a Time", "Rust Never Sleeps" & as recently as "Le Noise" but a few (like the incredible "Hawaii") are only available here. This is "peak Neil" just doing what he does best, writing great songs & performing them with an effortless swagger that only he can muster. This is easily one of the finest releases of the year & we're just so in love with this record. RECOMMENDED.

We all need something to look forward to these days & for us it's been this previously unreleased album by Neil Young recorded in 1974/75 as his relationship with Carrie Snodgress was coming to an end. Neil was already a few albums into his now legendary "ditch trilogy" & the label was looking for a more upbeat, radio friendly album & this would have fulfilled that request but Neil felt it was too personal & decided to move on. Since then he's had a change of heart & actually apologized for not releasing it before. Neil already blew us away with the previously unreleased "Hitchhiker" album but this one is even better. This isn't a throwaway outtakes record, in fact it's maybe one of his best, fitting in nicely next to "Comes a Time" or "Harvest". Featuring members of THE BAND on a few songs as well as CRAZY HORSE members, there's now ANOTHER classic album to add to Neil Young's already ridiculous discography.

In early 2014, Neil Young entered Jack Whites Third Man studios to record a collection of cover songs in a 1940s era recording booth. Back then, people would record songs or voice messages in these booths directly to a record & send them to loved ones. Often the recipients were in the military, possibly even at war. Each side starts off with a personal message to Neils deceased mother & it gives the album a very personal, almost sweet touch. Neil plays some of his favorite songs by musicians that were a major influence on his career including Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, Gordon Lightfoot, Bruce Springsteen & Willie Nelson. The album definitely has a lost, old-timey & ghostly feel & the lo-fi recording method gives gives the whole project a nice touch of post modernism.
