John Carpenter's soundtracks were borderline iconic from day one with his sparse electronic arrangements (with help from composer Alan Howarth on a few) that perfectly matched the dark tone of his now iconic, cult films. Over the last few decades, Carpenter's music has influenced countless electronic musicians & film composers & now in 2015 he has released his first proper solo album "Lost Themes." The title might confuse some as it sounds like a collection of unused movie music but these are in fact brand new recordings influenced by theoretical, imaginary films. Carpenter is joined by his son Cody & his godson Daniel Davies & they've created an album that sounds very classic "Carpenter." It's easy to imagine many of the tracks as main themes to action or horror films & interestingly, some of the music reminds us of some other horror soundtrack legends, mainly the Italian legends GOBLIN. We imagine that any of you that are fans of Carpenter's now legendary soundtrack work will love this & we also recommend this to fans of contemporary artists like ZOMBI, ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER & UMBERTO just to name a few.

"The Mother Stone" is the debut album from Caleb Landry Jones, someone you might know better from his acting in "Twin Peaks: The Return" & "Get Out." Making your musical debut with a double LP is pretty bold but a lot of things about this record are kind of over the top. The music is flamboyant & sprawling, sort of like glam show tunes or a demented musical. Think Lennon's most tripped-out when he was the Walrus, Kevin Ayers, Tom Waits etc...

The talented guitarist & prolific songwriter Marissa Nadler is back with her 9th solo album. During the pandemic Marissa supposedly got deep into Unsolved Mysteries (um, YES!) & how some of the stories reminded her of things in her own life. Nadler also learned to play piano & wrote many of the songs on that instrument & then re-learned them on guitar adding yet another tool to her song writing belt. With help from Mary Lattimore, Simon of COCTEAU TWINS, Emma Ruth Rundle & more, Nadler has created a dreamy album of mysterious & airy songs that sound new & fresh which is impressive so deep into her discography.
