MIKAL CRONIN has been busy both as a solo artist and as a member of TY SEGALL's backing band (or more accurate, garage rock art collective) FREEDOM BAND along with TY and CHARLES MOOTHART. These artists have always been closely connected, but maybe never more for CRONIN than here. FREEDOM BAND backs him up here, and the power of the rhythm section and big, layered-vocal choruses make the connection easy with FUZZ or his bandmates' solo material. It's not a change in the formula; sure CRONIN tends to emphasize harmony and arrangement more than his peers, but it's still SEGALL-esque rock. I happen to like that formula. If you do too, pick this up. This color vinyl version also comes with a bonus 12" single, featuring two non-album tracks each clocking in at over 15 minutes. YOU GOTTA, DUDE!

"Eternal Hails" is the 19th album by the legendary Norwegian black metal duo DARKTHRONE. We're not sure how Fenriz & Nocturno Culto manage to still sound fresh so deep in their career but they have done that on this fantastically titled 2021 album. The classic nods are there of course like MOTORHEAD & CELTIC FROST but we're also hearing hints of SST Records like later Rollins BLACK FLAG & ST. VITUS. These guys never disappoint! RECOMMENDED.

North Carolina-based singer-songwriter INDIGO DE SOUZA continues to build upon her successes for her third record, emerging from the deep existentially adrift feelings of her previous two albums for something more triumphant. DE SOUZA's vocals remain expressive and visceral, and the styles still run the gamut of dancey R&B, searing guitar anthems and open-hearted ballads, but "All of This Will End" lands these on a feeling of peaceful acceptance and an infectious joie de vivre. Fans of SNAIL MAIL, SOCCER MOMMY and PHOEBE BRIDGERS will find lots to love. RECOMMENDED.
