The second album from MELODY'S ECHO CHAMBER is a louge-pop tour de force, both breezy & fun but ventures into the avant-garde here & there; enough to keep us on our toes & perhaps crack listeners' brains open a little bit, but not so much as to scare anyone away. A great summertime release!

This third album from French musician Melody Prochet continues to draw from the silky dream pop of COCTEAU TWINS and BEACH HOUSE as well as electro psych-funk in the mold of TAME IMPALA or later TORO Y MOI. Added is a newer sense of lyrical and sonic clarity, weaving ideas on growth and hardship through arrangements that have never sounded so simultaneously dense and airy. Another excellent record for Prochet. RECOMMENDED.

2012 album from MELODY'S ECHO CHAMBER is a perfectly- recorded psych-pop album with breezy female vocals, like if BEST COAST dropped the sunny Cali vibe & moved to somewhere with an actual winter. MELODY (whose last name is PROCHET) hails from France, a country with a long, deep pop-music history & that lounge-y pop vibe is represented here, as well. Fans of Broadcast, Blonde Redhead or Stereolab look look look and listen listen listen!

With spacious production provided by CHRIS TAYLOR of GRIZZLY BEAR fame, the MORNING BENDERS stretch their post-rock sound out on their sophomore album. Some of these songs have a straight rock thing going on, but for the most part, the MORNING BENDERS stick to an ambling pace, letting their songs arrive at the end seemingly whenever they want.

This is not to say that they are not "epic." Crashing symbol work, grinding bass lines, and, of course, guitar riffs that take the place of a singer. That is to say the guitars duel and compete for prominence, and then suddenly harmonize and interlock to form triumphant, instrumental soliloquies. Giving this a quick listen is not really doing this album justice. "City of Echoes" is a well-crafted, exercise in the genre of instrumental, spacious rock. You just may want to buy this, and listen to it LOUD!!!

YESS!!! Available once again on LP, "World Of Echo" is ARTHUR RUSSELL at his most stark, depressing, and introspective. Employing only his voice, his cello, and echoboxes, Russell transforms his pop and dance numbers into decaying mantras where the rhythm is a ghost and the soul hangs in the air only to be sucked up by the desperation of 80's Manhattan. In short, this is a fucking godsend, and if you add on four bonus tracks, then it just makes eternity burn a little brighter. 100% APPROVED!!!

Wonderful collection of songs from the short-lived DC group THE SHAPIROS. Lo-fi, minimal jangle pop in the same vein as THE CAT'S MIAOW, YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS and BEAT HAPPENING - in fact there's a cover of "Cry For A Shadow" off of "Dreamy". Absolutely RECOMMENDED!
