Dear web customers:

AS OF DECEMBER 6 2014, RECKLESS IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDING MAIL ORDER OPERATIONS.

There are a number of factors that are complicating our ability to properly run the mail order operations and we have chosen to suspend operations for the time being. We are in the process of major repairs at one location and we will be moving another location to a new building in the coming months. These projects are making web sales untenable.

The website will still show our catalog of in-stock items but we WILL NOT SHIP ORDERS. The shopping cart will be disabled and WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ORDERS VIA TELEPHONE FOR SHIPMENT, EITHER. We are sorry, we know we have a lot of great regular customers but we have to maintain this as a hard and fast rule.

We will make sure all previous orders have been fullfilled and any lingering questions addressed.

We will still sell GIFT CERTIFICATES for use in the shops, but they will not be redeemable online. We will refund anyone with a gift certificate who is unable to come into one of our shops in person.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and we hope to be back up and running some time next year after the dust (literally!) settles.

Marching Church
This World Is Not Enough (w/ Download)
 cover
Sacred Bones
MARCHING CHURCH is the solo project of Elias Bender Ronnenfelt, singer of ICEAGE. This is a pretty different monster than ICEAGE, instead of aggressive post-punk, MARCHING CHURCH sounds like a more drunken, 4AM version of early Nick Cave or GUN CLUB.

Walker, Ryley
Primrose Green (green Vinyl, Ltd. Ed.) (w/ Download)
 cover
Dead Oceans
Chicago's Ryley Walker has been part of the underground experimental & noise scene for awhile now & over the past few years, he's made a bit of a name for himself internationally, especially in Europe. Walker's still in his early 20's but he's one of those naturals that seems like he's been playing for 30 years. We doubt Walker would be too miffed if we talked about his obvious homage to 60's & 70's folk rock & we're talking everything from the title to the cover art to the songs. "Primrose Green" is a full-band album that owes as much to jazz as it does to British folk & you'll pick up on the John Martyn, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn & Van Morrison influences right away. We want to remind you though, Walker is no copycat that lives in the past, instead he's breathed new life into a sound that a lot of us have forgotten or maybe even never heard before. RECOMMENDED. Green vinyl is limited edition.

Silence
Silence
 cover
Drag City
2015 album from longtime GHOST (the Japanese psych rockers, not the costumed Swedish metallers) member Masaki Batoh & his new band called THE SILENCE. The group combines 70's classic rock sound with hints of folk & psychedelia. GHOST were known to flirt with classic rock from time to time & this is perhaps more on the mellow side of rock, reminding us of Bill Fay, some Alex Chilton solo work mixed with more obscure psych/folk sounds like COMUS or even POPOL VUH at times. Fans of Batoh's music will not be disappointed.

Albert Demuth (ltd 300, #'d In Matrix) (hand-scratched Labels, Gold Outer Wrap)
 cover
Self
2015 album from Rhode Island's ALBERT DEMUTH is a hazy, mostly-just-electric-guitar-and-vocals affair, & certainly sounds like it was recorded on a fall day on the coast. DEMUTH has also played with Reckless faves LIBYANS as well as COTTAGING. RECOMMENDED.

Baro
KYLE LANDSTRA/GARDENER/DIFFERENCE CLOUDS/VILLAGES The BARO boys bring you their biggest release to date, almost 80 minutes of the finest skyjams from Chicago and Asheville's finest etheral architects. Kyle Landstra lends his dramatic sequenced digital synthesizer tones ala STEVE ROACH. Gardener brings us further upwards with analog kosmische vibes, not unlike BITCHIN BAJAS. Tape 2 starts with Bathetic veteran DIFFERENCE CLOUDS's futuristic OST vibes, could be an alternate soundtrack to AKIRA or BLADE RUNNER. VILLAGES brings us back down to earth with dense clouds of prepared piano & strings, kind of like STEVE REICH on ludes. Mastered by Odd Nosdam & HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

Harm's Way
Rust (die-cut Outer Sleeve) (clear "rust" Vinyl, W/ Download)
 cover
Deathwish
2015 album from Chicago's HARM'S WAY shows what can happen if a band sticks it out long enough to grow & morph into something unique but familiar. These guys started as a fast-as-fuck hardcore/grind band, got more deliberate in their approach & now have fully formed into a lumbering, electronics-tinged hardcore beast. The mechanical theme of "Rust" hits on every level. The music is still hardcore, but its exactness is machine-like in execution & the atmosphere is weighty in & of itself. This is the band's debut for the Deathwish label, once again proving that Deathwish knows how to pick 'em. Recorded by ANDY NELSON at Bricktop Studio & VERY VERY VERY REOMMENDED!

Butler, Will
Policy (w/ Download)
 cover
Merge
WILL BUTLER from ARCADE FIRE (younger brother to lead singer Win Butler) brings us his debut solo album. You'll recognize Will as the multi-instrumentalist (guitar, synth, clarinet, back up vocals) for ARCADE FIRE with a manic power electric enough to carry his own. He has a contagious energy in his voice, at times he's smooth and at times he's wild. And to match, the music takes a few different directions throughout "Policy" as well. A couple tracks are a bluesy rock n roll, others give us a more electronic pop vibe, and then there's one or two with BUTLER giving us his crooner voice next to piano. Lucky for him he can actually pull off all the varying sounds. It's an impressive debut worth a few repeat listens. And for the die hard ARCADE FIRE fan, don't worry, that influence is still kicking around in Butler's music.

Moi J'Connais
The first volume of Moi J'Connais "Hypnotic Cajun & Obscure Zydeco" was a big success & it's been a long five years since that 1st release. The label has dug even deeper into the musical history of Southern Louisiana & some of these tracks are being released on vinyl for the first time. This is a great introduction to the rich world of Cajun & Zydeco music.

Shadow Of The Sun (w/ Bonus 7") (ltd. Ed. Red Vinyl)
 cover
Sacred Bones
MOON DUO Ripley Johnson & Sanae Yamada are back with a new one for 2015 & technically they're not a duo on this one as they've brought in drummer John Jeffrey. Repetition is still the name of game on "Shadow of the Sun" though things seem a little more sugary & bubblegum this time. A few of the songs even remind us of early B52s. Fans of their other stuff, WOODEN SHJIPS, SUICIDE, HAWKWIND, STOOGES etc... will be pleased. Limited edition red vinyl w/ bonus 7".

 cover
4AD
Megan James & Corin Roddick aka PURITY RING return their sophomore album. "Shrines" was a massive success & seemed to fill a void felt by many waiting for a new GRIMES album. This album is a much more straight ahead, mainstream pop record & it's easy to imagine a few of these tunes being legit hits or maybe turning up on movie or tv soundtrack in the next few years. Fans of their first album & forward thinking electronic pop will not be disappointed. Limited edition clear vinyl pressing.

Russell, Arthur
Calling Out Of Context (2lp)
 cover
Audika
Yes, perhaps the Soul Jazz collection "World Of Arthur Russell" was not for people ready to go back to the Garage or the Loft, with its steady concentration of disco cuts. However, this collection on AUDIKA is just another world of RUSSELL's vast work. Here are 12 tracks never before released (coming from two scrapped albums, "Corn" and another for Rough Trade, that RUSSELL could not finish at the time of passing in 1992). This is the bridge between his "World of Echo" album and say "In the Light of The Miracle" single; there's beats that are dancey at points, but the focus on cello and voice here are so somber and depressing that its hypnotic detail and emotional release make it one of the saddest records ever recorded (especially when you take into account the last months of Russell's life). Once again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Ultra High Frequencies (2lp, Die-cut) Chicago Party (w/ Dvd)
 cover
Numero Group
If you lived in Chicago in 1982, you might remember a wacky & bizarre TV show called "The Chicago Party" that played for about 6 months or so. The death knell of disco had already been rung, but many people were still holding on for dear life & this show celebrated those post-disco sounds & also featured magic tricks & video effects & plenty of fat ties & big collars. Numero once again celebrates a nearly forgotten side of Chicago music history with this collection of rare, mostly self-released singles by artists featured on "The Chicago Party", some previously unreleased music & a 100 minute DVD video 'mixtape' of the show.
