 cover
Modern Love
DEMDIKE STARE plows forward with their groundbreaking TEST PRESSING series, this time with some insane and damaged dancefloor edits on the A-side and some experimental metal edits on the flip. These are always satisfying and adventurous and this one is surely no exception. DARING and ESSENTIAL!

V (limited Edition Clear Vinyl) (w/ Download Code)
 cover
Secretly Canadian
Swedish duo JJ are back in 2014 with "V" -- a clear progression from their earlier albums. Richly cinematic, "V" is full of grad arrangements & beautiful, mostly unadorned vocals. Jaokim Benon & Elin Kastlander are definately taking their breezy, stonery summer jams into a more structured & polished direction. Check this out!!

Slimkid3 & Dj Nu-mark
Bom Bom Fiya Bouillon (feat. Del & Murs)
 cover
Delicous Vinyl
Two tracks from the full-length collabo between JURASSIC 5's DJ NU-MARK & PHARCYDE's SLIMKID3 (aja SLINKID TRE). The A-side is a Bollywood-influenced jam that also incorporates what we're pretty sure is the sound of a flying car from "The Jetsons." "Bouillon" a straight burner over a funky jazz loop & features MURS & DEL. Very good!
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New 45 $9.99

Grave
Soulless (2oth Anniversary Edition) (clear Orange, 180g)
 cover
Century Media
2014 reisue of this classic Swedish death metal album from 1994! 20 years old, yeesh! If you don't know GRAVE, they were on par with their peers in DISMEMBER or ENTOMBED but this album is more along the death & roll lines; very groovy & super heavy. Essential!
Available at: All Stores
New LP $19.99

Apache Dropout
Heavy Window (w/ Download Code)

Svengalisghost
Vicious Circle Ep (3 Trks)
 cover
L.I.E.S.
After emerging from years of seclusion from below the Chicago underground, MARQUIS COOPER aka SVENGALISGHOST returns with an EP of all new material. Bruising and unhinged dark alley music from the future. INCREDIBLE.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave.
New LP $10.99

Cross My Heart Hope To Die
Vita E Morte
 cover
Alpha Pup
High-concept second release from CROSS MY HEART HOPE TO DIE, which features DJ MUGGS (CYPRESS HILL) along- side ANDREW KLINE (from the hardcore band STRIFE), SEAN BONNER & BREVI. There was a whole art installation that went along with this EP, but since you can't see that, know that these four songs are dark, PORTISHEAD- inspired, downtempo jams with BREVI's smoky vocals on top. Totally cool & chill . . .
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New CD $6.99

Trash Talk
No Peace (w/ Flexi)
 cover
Odd Future
TRASH TALK make brilliant, brutal, hardcore music. Not the most conventional punk band ever, the Sacramento band is signed to a hip hop label (OFWGKTA!), & open this set with an ALCHEMIST production, then blast through some two minute missiles of pure hardcore fury, to finish with a track that features KING KRULE. All together clocking in near a crisp half hour. Abrasive youthful, violent, carefree, amazing! *** BONUS FLEXI has an ACTION BRONSON song that's produced by ALCHEMIST! ***

Stl Gld (moe Pope & Arcitype)
My Monday Morning Music Mmmm (white Vinyl, W/ Download)
 cover
Brick
Very nice collaboration between the underrated MOE POPE & producer/multi-instrumentalist ARCITYPE. The songs on this run the gamut of styles but POPE's lyrics & flow ride ARCITYPE's beat effortlessly. If you're looking for a new HIP-HOP album, check this out!
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New LP $18.99

Energy Gown
Evening Molasses (colored Vinyl) (w/ Download)
 cover
Alona's Dream
Heavy, heavy psych-rock with a trashy punk energy from Chicago's ENERGY GOWN! The songs on this LP range from structured to repetitive drones to pure weirdness (all compliments). Check this out!

New LP $11.99

Jar'd Loose
Turns 13 (blue Vinyl)
 cover
Threshold of Pain
This, the second album from Chicago's JAR'D LOOSE is in the Metal section more out of convenience than any- thing else. This four-piece is more along the lines of heavy '90s rock like HELMET or WHITE ZOMBIE, or more curent bands like WHORES or KOWLOON WALLED CITY. Great riffage, super low-end production (mastered by STEVE AUSTIN from TODAY IS THE DAY!) & gasoline vocals all come together for another unique LP from this underrated band. RECOMMENDED!

New LP $9.99

Carpenter, Bob
Silent Passage (2014 Reissue)
 cover
No Quarter
2014 reissue of this long out of print solo album by Canadian singer-songwriter Bob Carpenter. "Silent Passage" features some of the best session players to come out of LA in the 1970s, plus backing vocals by Emmylou Harris & Anne Murray. It's Carpenter's husky voice & intimate vocals, however, that are the most powerful forces at work here. This is a beautiful album full of melancholy & wisdom and we here at Reckless are immensely happy to have it finally be available again!!

New LP $12.99

Omar S.
Annoying Mumbling Alkaholik (3 Trks)
 cover

Cocksure
Tvmalsv (w/ Download)
 cover
Metropolis
2014 full-length resurrection of the REVOLTING COCKS as COCKSURE. The duo of original COCKS vocalist CHRIS CONNELLY alongside ACUMEN NATION & CZAR member JASON NOVAK retain the same spirit as the original band: dirty, punk-industrial with a serious hard-on for drugs & debauchary. Beneath their sick exterior there's lyrics that are perfectlly all in; an elitist take on complete indulgence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

New LP $17.99

Ne-hi
Ne- Hi Ne-hi (w/ Download)
 cover
Manic Static
This is the anticipated debut from local band NE- Hi. These boys have been tearing up local DIY spaces for a while but finally have a release and it's excellent. Drawing from elements of 80's college rock like THE FEELIES and a little bit of New Zealand catchiness like the CLEAN and you are in the ballbark. Basically the record sounds like a Chicago summer drinking PBR and riding around broke on your bike. These dudes are onto to bigger things soon! One of the new crop of bands blowing up Chicago like THE ORWELLS, TWIN PEAKS or SMITH WESTERNS.
Available at: Milwaukee Ave. and Loop
New LP $13.99

Has-lo & Castle
Live Like You're Dead
 cover
Mello Music Group
MelloMusicGroup continues putting out some of the absolute best Hip Hop music. Here Frank & Lo come together again after working with each other earlier this year on RETRUN OF THE GASFACE, but here the two MC/ Producers provide both rhymes & beats, sometimes trading lines, sometimes rocking whole verses. This is witty, hardcore, boom-bap with a twisted sense of humor. GET IT!

Various Artists
Eccentric Soul: The Way Out Label (3lp)
 cover
Numero Group
Here is yet another stunning addition to NUMERO's much celebrated Eccentric Soul series. This time they're highlighting The Way Out Records label from Cleveland, Ohio. From the sounds of it they seemed to have housed a wide variety of soul men and women. There's some doo wop here, some sweet soul, some gospel-esque songs, the list goes on. Way Out Records clearly knew how to foster a vibrant, ever-changing sound from their artists and we at Reckless are sure happy for it.

Hector, Karl & The Malcouns
Unstraight Ahead (2lp) (w/ Download)
 cover
Now Again
YESSSSSS!!! 2014 album from KARL HECTOR & THE MALCOUNS is a self-described "Afrodelic Kraut Funk" masterpiece. We can't really classify HECTOR's sound any better: all of the best parts of Afrobeat, funk, jazz, psych, etc all rolled up into one super-funky mix. HECTOR's band features members of similar groups like the WHITEFIELD BROTHERS & POETS OF RHYTHM so you know this is top notch stuff. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Fallujah
Flesh Prevails (w/ Download)
 cover
Unique Leader
Semi-proggy tech-death from California's FALLUJAH. This is very well done, wide-ranging material, from straight, blasting brutality to quiet, uber-melodic parts, these guys have a pretty unique sound but could be compared to ULCERATE or INANIMATE EXISTENCE. There is some serious melodic shredding going on that reminds us of recent DECREPIT BIRTH, too. Check it!

New LP $23.99

Various Artists
Bitter Cold Compilation
 cover
Diseased Audio
Eight bands & eight songs in the grind/powerviolence/ noise realm. A nice little sampler platter of harsh shit from SICK/TIRED, SEA OF SHIT, MELLOW HARSHER, GNAWED, SCAPHE, MACHISMO & MILORGANAUT. RECOMMENDED!!
Available at: Broadway and Milwaukee Ave.
New 45 $4.99

Mastodon
Remission (2lp, 2014 Deluxe Reissue) (in Box, Oxblood Vinyl, Ltd 1500)
 cover
Relapse
2014 reissue of the classic first album from MASTODON is a deluxe affair that sees the album remixed by MATT BAYLES (who recorded & mixed the album the first time around, too) & remastered, to boot. It sounds better than ever! Comes with a booklet with expanded artwork & a gold-stamped cover. RECOMMENDED for stoner-sludge fans that have somehow never heard this landmark release.

New LP $49.99

Shabazz Palaces
Lese Majesty (2lp, Loser Edition) (purple Vinyl, W/ Download)
 cover
Subpop
"Lese Majesty," the second long-player from former DIGABLE PLANETS member BUTTERFLY, operating as a solo artist under the SHABAZZ PALACES moniker, is 18 tracks long but with most of the tracks falling in the 1:30 - 2:00 minute range. There's some longer songs, too (the album is 45 minutes long) but for the most part this is like a hip-hop SEBADOH album; a patchwork of songs assembled into one long piece. SHABAZZ PALACES retains the mellow, bass-heavy vibe from his DIGABLE PLANETS days, but injects a psych- rock feel into the songs via layers on layers. Fans of MADLIB's less-straightforward material will eat this up. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Fur Coats
League Of Extraordinary Octopuses
 cover
Dirt Cult
2014 album from FUR COATS (members of DAS KAPITAL & DIRECT HIT) is a bouncy, power-pop album that, in typical power-trio fashion, is driven by the rhythm section. Some of these songs were first released on two different 7-inches, but a bunch of these songs were recorded for this album. RECOMMENDED!
