The metal supergroup known as VHOL return with their sophomore album. The band features members of HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE, AGALLOCH & YOB's Mike Scheidt on vocals. The album opens with an intro that sounds like something from one of the first three METALLICA albums. The rest of the album is a mix of 80's thrash, JUDAS PRIEST esque power metal & some progressive & artful moments. This is a MASSIVE heavy metal album. RECOMMENDED.

Ash Koosha
I Aka I
 cover
Ninja Tune
When folks refer to artists "coming out of left field," it usually means one of two things- they are fresh on the scene with a superb effort, or they are so far from the normal "center" that their music sounds strange. Enter ASH KOOSHA, who fits both definitions. His debut GUUD came last year, courtesy of OLDE ENGLISH SPELLING BEE, and surprised many an internet critic and blogger by gaining lots of support and momentum without a physical release. His follow-up on Ninja Tune, I AKA I, follows the same sonic path as GUUD while sounding warmer, friendlier, and... gooier. Texture is the name of the game here, and Ash Koosha delivers. Sounding simultaneously comforting and alien, I AKA I is like aurally diving into a pool of rainbow jello. We could wax on and on with various colorful adjectives, but you must simply sit down and listen to this album. If you are a fan of abstract or experimental electronic music, you will LOVE this! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Lanza, Jessy
Oh No
 cover
Hyperdub
After listening to OH NO only once, we have but one question. Why isn't Lanza at the top of the charts alongside Rihanna, Arianna Grande, etc? It certainly wouldn't be out of place- hell, Ghost Town DJ's impecable cut "My Boo" has re-entered the charts after 20 years. What a funny coincidence- if you ever wanted an entire album of sounds that remind you of "My Boo," here it is! Her second outing on the mighty Hyperdub, OH NO improves upon nearly everything established on her debut, 2013's Pull My Hair Back. Minimalism pays off in spades on this one- rarely are there any more than 3 or 4 elements going on, which leaves plenty of space for Lanza's charming coo. OH NO was co-produced by Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys, contributing to a melting pot of influences ranging from Japanese pop (YMO & solo projects!) to 90's R&B and pop. Earworms for days, this is an album that will command your attention and work itself into your head. You will find yourself dancing in public places, forgetting that the people around you can't hear the jamz in your headphones. This album will undoubtably show up on plenty of year-end lists, so do yourself a favor, buy the record, support awesome women making incredible music, and feel good about it. HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION.

Acid Arcadia (w/download)
 cover
PLUS100
One of our favorite producers, VAPERROR, has gifted us a new collection of tunes! ACID ARCADIA is the follow up to POLYCHROMATIC COMPILER released on Dream Catalouge last year. Effortlessley switching from slammin' acid trax to neon footwork, VAPERROR cannot be pigeon- holed into just one subgenre- he does it all with style and finesse not often seen in modern electronica. For fans of APHEX TWIN, MAXO, DAM FUNK, MACHINEDRUM & JIMMY EDGAR will absolutely love this! From PLUS100 and RECOMMENDED!!!

Alis
Corporeal (w/download)
 cover
PLUS100
PLUS100 brings us the majestic debut album from ALIS, aka Sabina Plamenova. Previously known as SUBEENA, CORPOREAL recalls the warm reverb'd synths of IDM's past while reaching towards the glossy, futuristic horizon. Her voice is an integral anchor to her synthesized worlds- borrowing elements of 90's rave, ambient, and IDM, ALIS creates an original sound she can call her own. Mysterious and euphoric, for fans of LAUREL HALO, JAMES K, and APHEX TWIN's selected ambient works albums. Totally recommended from the Reckless crew!
