 cover
Metal Face
Sophomore album from KMD (which was MF DOOM before he was MF DOOM alongside his brother SUBROC) that was shelved by Elektra & later saw underground success due to its brilliance (of course). 2015 reissue of this fresh album looks amazing with a pop-up gate- fold sleeve! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Telepath
Your Love/eternal Love (2xcs) (w/download)
 cover
PLUS100
WOW! Our friends at PLUS100 have brought us an amazing package of two 2015 TELEPATH releases- Your Love & Eternal Love. For those of you not familiar with TELEPATH- each release is essentially a HEAVILY edited mixtape of Japanese Soul/Funk/Disco tunes submerged under VHS, waves of timed delays, slushy phaser, and heavy bass. TELEPATH's edits have an extremely dream- like effect on the listener- many folks have reported OOB experiences and self-realizations to his unique compositions. One could simply lump him in with other "vaporwave" producers, but would be missing the point. These tunes go far beyond a "remix" and enter psychidellic territory- who cares about what genre this belongs in? TELEPATH's music takes the listener to another level. We are very proud to be able to stock these, they are limited and won't last long so don't sleep on these! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Clipper, Conrad
Cycle Of Liminal Rites (w/download)
 cover
Love Lion
Reckless affiliated label LOVE LION brings us another home run in 2016- CARETAKER fans take note! CONRAD CLIPPER is the pseudonym of a mysterious composer/multi-instrumentalist dwelling in/around Berlin, London, and the French Alps. His debut record is a beautiful smattering of upright and prepared piano that has been processed through a multitude of tape recorders. These recordings were then played out of speakers and "re-amped"- in an abandoned mental asylum! Clipper is self-taught, scoring parts for other musicians based on color prisms and explains his record as a way to make peace with people he's lost. Fans of haunted 20th century classical and the ERASED TAPES label will love this slab of decaying minimalism as much as we do. Highest possible recommendation!

Jawbreaker
Dear You (2016 Reissue)
 cover
Geffen
So a couple of years back, you paid $50 for an original copy of "Dear You" on Geffen on Ebay & you could justify because you just needed to have it. Forward to 2004 & these guys decide to re-release the album & to make matters worse, they add some bonus tracks? Shit, dude you're bummin. No actually, you are psyched because you know that kids just discovering this essential 90's punk band can get this shit cheap without having to search online and over paying for it like you had to. Because this record reminds you of be- ing young & naive & willing to pay that much for a great record & how sometimes records don't sound this good to you anymore for some reason. Because you wrote to the band & ordered a shirt & the drummer wrote you a really long letter thanking you for caring & you still have it because it meant something & still does. Even after you heard the band were going to break up before they made this record & they recorded it "for the money." Even after they were blacklisted by Maximum Rock'n'Roll & most of your friends (you don't talk to those people anymore anyway & MRR sucks now so who cares?) for being sell outs. It still means something to you. Because...

Venomous Concept
Kick Me Silly Vc Iii
 cover
Season of Mist
Third -- & most cohesive -- album from VENOMOUS CONCEPT (members of NAPALM DEATH & BRUTAL TRUTH) is their first with a very stable lineup & it shows. Not as death-grind as NAPALM, but not the whirling ball of chaos that was BRUTAL TRUTH. A nice mixture that leaves us feeling nestled in their fuzzy mascot's bosom. KEVIN SHARP's vocal range is fully realized, LILKER, EMBURY & COOK on writing details is a dream team & HERRERA on the kit means it's going to be solid for the circle pit riffs & the crazy blasting. YOU NEED THIS TO LIVE!! RECOMMENDED!!

Remember
Walking To Heartache (w/download)
 cover
PLUS100
The mighty REMEMBER is back in action after his much lauded debut on DREAM CATALOUGE earlier this year- this time on PLUS100, the label that brought us the fantastic TELEVAPE release. This release acts as a prequel to his debut- 2 long-form morphing ambient gems. Beautiful pads and strings lay the foundation for bitcrushed bells and heavy crisp electronic drums. For fans of the FAX and KRANKY labels, 2814, VAPERROR, and ambient electronic music in general. This will make the perfect soundtrack to the first snowfall here in the city.. whenever that happens! This first pressing of 100 tapes is sold out at source-these are the last copies! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Run The Jewels
Meow The Jewels (2lp, Color Vinyl) (furry Cover)
 cover
Mass Appeal
When RTJ 2 dropped... exploding cars! The excitement surrounding KILLER MIKE & EL-P getting together for a second LP rocked the internet, & boy did they live up to the expectations. Now after some prodding & some cryptic comments, MEOW THE JEWELS is ready for consumption. Remixes from some amazing, brilliant, musicians... with additional cat sounds. It sounds weird, but this charity project is actually as dope as it is funny.

Jennylee
Right On! (w/ Download)
 cover
Rough Trade
Jenny Lee Lindberg of WARPAINT delivers her first solo record as JENNYLEE. "Right on!" sounds like a more stripped-down WARPAINT, with her driving bass lines leading the sparse, post-punk influenced songs. Stella from WARPAINT adds some drums on a few songs & some of the songs definitely sound like their excellent band. The minimal song structure really works here & we think that fans of Factory bands like SECTION 25 & THE WAKE, WARPAINT & INTERPOL will really like this. RECOMMENDED!

Sweatshirt, Earl
Doris (w/ Download)
 cover
Columbia
It's EARL, the missing member of OFWGKTA. TYLER's protege, the subject of the FREE EARL campaign. SWEATSHIRT's DORIS is as idiosyncratic in sound as it is in name. With production from the NEPTUNES, TYLER, RZA, & EARL himself, the sound is lo-fi, odd at times, & layered. Still what makes this record is SWEATSHIRT's ability to put a ton of meaning in a single couplet, & the consistency with which he does. SO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Grimes
Art Angels (w/ Download)
 cover
4AD
In late 2014, Claire Boucher aka GRIMES announced that she had finished a new record, but after living with it for a bit she decided that it "sucked" so she scrapped it & started over. This dedication to her craft only made us like her more. GRIMES is unashamedly 'pop' but there's an artful quality to her whole image that definitely sets this apart from your Katy Perrys & Miley Cyruses. The thing that surprised us most about this record is how much it's rooted in rock music. There's a lot of guitar on it but like the rest of the music, it's heavily processed to give it that slick pop sound. It makes us think of YEAH YEAH YEAHS if they tried going full-on pop. If you're looking for the best example of expertly crafted electronic pop music in 2015/16, look no further, because this it.
