WASHED OUT
PARACOSM (EMBOSSED SLEEVE)
Sub Pop
On the third WASHED OUT album, Georgia's Ernest Greene steps out of the darkness & into the light. "Paracosm" is described by Greene as "daytime psychedelia" & that description rings true. The album opens with magical sounding synths, the sound of chirping birds & some vibes & it's easy to imagine a Southern scene, just sitting on a porch, staring out into the day. The chill bedroom vibes are almost entirely absent here. The production is still icey at times but overall the mood is positive & light, like the most upbeat ATLAS SOUND or M83 tunes. This is the sound of WASHED OUT excepting that life goes on & that's fine with us.

WASHED OUT
PURPLE NOON
Sub Pop
Ernest Greene & his WASHED OUT Project have returned to Sub Pop for "Purple Noon." Mellow synth pop with that beachy vibe that so many 80s records had. Think SADE, DURAN DURAN, songs playing in the background while Crockett & Tubbs are settling up on a cocaine deal in a bar on Miami Vice. Good summer tunes..

WASHED OUT
WITHIN & WITHOUT
Sub Pop
"Within and Without" marks Ernest Greene's first full length album and the much anticipated follow-up to 2009s "Life of Leisure" EP. Rather early on into the album, it's clear there are some differences between the two release, one being this is a studio album. Produced, calculated, and recorded in the same facility as the Goodie Mob's renion album. The sound of "Life of Leisure" wasn't low-fi but it certainly wasn't backed by Sub Pop. Another notceable difference is the lack of a "single" like "Feel It All Around." The songs found here keep a steady, reverbed atmosphere through out making "Within and Without" feel more like an album meant to be heard from beginning to end not just minced for DJ-able tracks. Also, look for the Caroline Polachek (Chairlift) supported track "You and I" for a even more smoothed out, "witchy" vibe. Ultimately, this is a more subtle, even sultry, affair from Greene's Washed Out project ready for a make-out session near you.
