There's been a lot of fantastic pop stars to come out of Canada, but none quite as classic & timeless as Celine Dion.

TIME OUT was a legitimate comeback, Dylan's first coll- ection of new material in nearly ten years & a risky run on mortality, but it's sequel LOVE & THEFT, is his true return to form; not just his best album since BLOOD ON THE TRACKS, but the loosest, funniest, warmest record he's made since BASEMENT TAPES. There are none of the foreboding, apocalyptic warnings that permeated TIME OUT OF MIND & even underpinned THINGS HAVE CHANGED from the film WONDER BOYS. Just as important, LANOIS' deliberately arty, diffuse production has ret- reated into the mist, replaced by an uncluttered reso- nate production that gives Dylan & his ace backing band room to breathe. Musically, Bob hasn't been this vital or natural since he was with THE BAND, and even then, those records were never as relaxed & easy or even as hard rocking as this. LOVE & THEFT is a remarkable achievement & AN ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE RECORD FOR ALL!

This is the solo debut of former BLACK EYES & MI AMI member Jacob Long. The album starts off with a pleasant ambient piece that reminded us of sitting on a shore & listening to a digital tide rolling in. The album quickly moves into ambient/techno territory with warm drones over dubbed-out beats & the rest of the record veers between ambient & beats. The closest Kranky artist that comes to mind is the fantastic minimalist dance of ETHERNET. Really good stuff. RECOMMENDED.

Similar to 2008's "From the Valley to the Stars" there is a particular delicate quality to Sarah Assbring's vocals that ellude to a sensitive topical nature. However, "Love Is Not Pop" is a bit of a departure musically. The chamber-ballads are few and far between with assistance from Studio's Rasmus Hagg who helped move Assbring into new territories and textures. There is still a sense of sadness throughout this album, it being a break-up album it only seems fit. If using music as a catharsis for personal turmoil creates albums this good, we hope she has a few more failed romances.
