The "directorial debut" from rock legend/loon Neil Young. A lo budget story about a family in the heartland of America & how the media infected their lives along with a few jabs at the Government spe- cifially inspired by the wonderful Bush administration.

On their first album ANIMAL COLLECTIVE filled every bit of space with some broken discourse of lulling but sputtering racket. Here the swirlling effects and shrill tones are still intact. However now theres alot more space with lyrical songs and swelling crescendos in tow. That is to say these songs sound alot more like...well, songs. Imagine "In a priest driven ambulance" era FLAMING LIPS working with WEEN on an album of SUN CITY GIRLS covers. Then you would either be a hopeless record store employee or a college radio geek. But then you would also kinda know what this sounds like without hearing it. The fact that its a reissue of the members Avey Tare, Panda Bear and Geologist seperate solo records. Most likely has everything to do with that. The fact is, their a collective. Which is kinda like a band. Only more powerful. Mostly instrumental Psychedelic music that mines some of the same influences as KHRUANGBIN. BALTHVS uses a tried & true formula, combining Middle Eastern, Indonesian, & Latin rhythms & sounds with heavily affected guitars to create danceable grooves & vibes.

Chicago ex-pat Ryley Walker teams up with fellow NYC buds J.R. Bohannon who is known for his droning pedal steel work & the in-demand engineer & UNIFORM member Ben Greenberg. The results are possibly more "out" than you might expect with Achim Reichel's A.R. & MACHINES, DON CAB/STORM & STRESS noodling & toe dips into drone territory. A bonus 7" with two extra tracks is included. RECOMMENDED.

JOHN CARPENTER and ALAN HOWARTH's score was far ahead of its time and probably went unnoticed to a lot of people, due to the fact that the film was panned when it debuted and didn't have the Michael Myers in it. HOWEVER...this is one of their best scores together. This featured cutting-edge technology (for the time), used to devastating effect. Subtle, moody and frightening, this is a touchstone for many electronic producers today. Like other albums on this great label, this features new artwork (even updated from the previous Death Waltz version) & an art card. RECOMMENDED OF COURSE!
