Recorded in relative isolation in Woodstock, NY during the dead of winter, the fifth WREKMEISTER HARMONIES release is a perfect capstone to the sludge of our darker months. Drawing influence from Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations", this is a stoic piece of minimalist folk and drone that finds beauty in harshness. Featuring SHEARWATER / SWANS' Thor Harris and Jamie Stewart of XIU XIU fleshing out the full band.

WREKMEISTER HARMONIES is the brain-child of Chicago musician & visual artist JR Robinson. WREKMEISTER HARMONIES was originally conceived as a live recording project set in museums around the world including the Gugenheim in NYC & the Pompidou Center in Paris among others. For the album, Robinson teamed up with musicians that participated at some of the shows including Jef Whitehead (LEVIATHAN/ TWILIGHT), Mark Solotroff (ANATOMY OF HABIT), Bruce Lamont (BLOODIEST & YAKUZA) & Sanford Parker (NACHTMYSTIUM/TWILIGHT) who also recorded the album. The album begins with a lengthy drone that covers the first side & 1/2. It reminded us of a mix of LOCRIAN, HORSEBACK & even GODSPEED YOU... Once the 'metal' kicks in, W.H. ain't screwing around. This shit is HEAVY & it really does sound like a mix of the artist's bands, specifically LEVIATHAN & BLOODIEST. If you're fan of dark ambient droning, black metal & rocking out in the experimental zone then this is the record for you.
