Alternating between lush bossa novas and Mutantes style freakouts, you can't go wrong. Tropicalia at it's finest. A must for fans of Mutantes, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, etc. Out-of-print on CD.

Somehow Dark Entries is STILL discovering unreleased Patrick Cowley music. "Some Funkettes" is an amazing collection of covers done in, you guessed it, a funky style. There have been hints of Cowley's tendency to get funky on the other releases but this one is full on heavy grooves, wah-wah guitar & arpeggiated synth madness. Features covers of Donna Summer's Moroder produced "I Feel Love", a super minimal take on THE TEMPATIONS "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" & a really loose & fun reinterpretation of Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon" on "Spiked Punch." The lo-fi recordings give these minimal funk pieces so much charm & we're totally digging it. RECOMMENDED.

Long, long before INCEPTION came around, there was DAVID CRONENBERG's layers and layers of reality mind-f*ck action flick eXistenZ. JENNIFER JASON LEIGH & JUDE LAW flee (artificial?) assassins deeper and deeper into the folds of virtual reality; the movie continues to flesh out some of the ideas Dave has presented in VIDEODROME and NAKED LUNCH, but in a more accessable, not-quite-Hollywood fashion. WILLEM DAFOE is in this (way not enough), as is ROBERT A. SILVERMAN, who is almost all of Cronenberg's films and, like RICHARD EDSON, kind of makes his movies great (EDSON : JARMUSCH as SILVER- MAN : CRONENBERG). ANYWAY, this movie is cool, much cooler than the Sarah Connor Chronicles or whatever other thing you are considering buying. Buy this instead. RECKLESS LOVES
