Yes!!! Drag City has dug up a real gem here. DEATH was a short-lived trio that only released one 7" back in 1975. Their music was influenced by all things Detroit from the 60's & 70's including MC5, STOOGES, the Motown sound & FUNKADELIC. Songs like "Rock-N-Roll Victim" & "Freakin Out" sound like could have been on the first BAD BRAINS album which wouldn't be recorded for 5 more years. Some of the riffs reminds us a little of THIN LIZZY, another rock band that seemed to anticipate the punk rock sound. Everything is top notch here, great guitar riffs, solid drumming (there's even a killer drum solo) & great vocals. These guys were really onto something & it's shame that they didn't put more music to tape but at least we have these seven songs. ESSENTIAL.

Local legends DEHD follow up last year's breakthru LP "Water" with another collection of ... shall we say elegantly trashy jangle-pop. "Flower of Devotion" has the band leaning into more detailed and synchopated rhythms that can at times remind us of the B-52's. Other tracks seem to draw from the dusty Americana of early ANGEL OLSEN records. Whichever way you want to slice it, DEHD has taken a step forward in both their writing and production, making this the best release of their young career.
