James Leyland Kirby aka CARETAKER has supposedly been working on this soundtrack to the documentary about German writer W.G. Sebald by Grant Gee for some time. Kirby used out-of-copywright recordings of Franz Schubert works from the late 20's & sculpted them the way that THE CARETAKER does, slowing them down, adding or accentuating noise & creating an overall dense & inviting mood. There are definitely similarities to the much lauded "An Empty Bliss Beyond This World" but Kirby definitely takes this style to a new level here. Another beautiful painting by Ivan Seal graces the cover. 2nd pressing on black vinyl, still very limited.

Dan Snaith, formerly of Manitoba, returns with another electronic infused chapter in a seried of albums that have surprised some but primarily pleased most. Following 2007's "Andorra" was not an easy task. "Andorra" garnered awards like Canada's prestigious Polaris Music Prize and made it to many best of lists that year. "Swim" has, already, collected steam as being "Caribou's masterpiece" and "the record he's wanted to bring to fruition for as he's been making music."

The orgins of the name Andorra refers to a region tucked away, and nestled in between Spain and France. It is listed as having the longest human life expectancy of any peoples on Earth. DAN SNAITH must of had this and other facts of the countries culture in mind to name his 2007 album after it. Recorded entirely at home, and primarily alone (one track has help from JEREMY GREENSPAN from JUNIOR BOYS) the sounds captured from his solo work are lush and complex. Layers of vocals, percussion, and snythesiezed sounds collide to form a warm fuzz of analog and electronic. This is a gorgeous mixture, well-tempered, and even keeled. Think the MICROPHONES for all that home recording aptitude, think ANIMAL COLLECTIVE for the vocal layering, and think THOM YORKE's solo material for the electronic meanderings. A piece of contemporary aural art!
