Denver's BLOOD INCANTATION continue to push the boundaries of metal with their 2024 album "Absolute Elsewhere." The album starts off with some pretty traditional death metal but it quickly becomes apparent that they're on their own ship hurtling through the cosmos. Two side long tracks that explore progressive death metal, VOIVOD esque sci-fi metal, tasty David Gilmour style soloing along with other Floyd-isms, RUSH, nods at Klaus Schulze & modern bands like ZOMBI. This is one of those albums that's worth spending some time with, headphones on, while perusing the brilliant artwork & totally spacing out however you like to do that. RECOMMENDED.

A smattering of garage and indie rock combine to form BLOOD ON THE WALL's third full-legnth album entitled "Liferz." The tone of this album can be described as a homage to alternative music of the 90's. Elements of the AMPS (KIM DEAL's side project while with the BREEDERS), PAVEMENT, and the PIXIES rear their heads. The amount of said influences is tasteful, however the footprint of the 90's is evident. "Liferz" may not be as firey as "Awesomer," but what it may lack in theatrics it makes up for in the solid nature of the songs. Catchy hooks, impassioned vocals, and incredible energy run throughout the entire album, which is rarely said about most of BOTW's contemporary counterparts. CHECK THIS OUT!!!

"Awesomer" is the sound of a band full of reckless abandon, carrening from urgent power pop to heavy driving rock, to EVOL era scuzz-punk and back again. The ridiculously talented multi-instrumentalist Dev Hynes returns with his 4th album as BLOOD ORANGE. The lo-fi bedroom pop sound of the early albums is still there but Hyne's has blended this with sounds of 80's/ 90's soul & R&B ala Marvin Gaye, Prince & D'Angelo. In interviews Hynes states that the album is inspired by his struggles with depression & those in the black & queer community that are battling their own demons. Totally futurist & forward-thinking music that we need right now. RECOMMENDED.
