this is the kind of movie that you assume everyone's seen, and when people say they haven't seen it, you *GASP* and exclaim, "you haven't seen it yet??? oh man, you get to see it for the first time? lucky bastard. i'm jealous." hitman with a heart of gold takes in jaded child. beautifully shot, poignant and totally bad-ass. if you haven't seen this movie, YA GOTTA. natalie portman's first ever role, and she's AMAZING. gary oldman is the villain, and he's AMAZING. from the writer/director of LE FEMME NIKITA and THE 5TH ELEMENT, which are also AMAZING. Fifth album from North Carolina's BETWEEN THE BURIED & ME. Part OPETH, part DREAM THEATER, & part MORBID ANGEL, these guys have grown from quirky hardcore/ death-metal band into a full-blown, modern, progressive metal band, their sound totally their own. Beautiful & brutal, this will be one of the best metal albums of 2009!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Southern Lord branches out a bit to release this album by the Montreal trio BIG BRAVE. There's nothing doomy or metal about this & we guess the closest possible previous Southern Lord release we can compare this to is BORIS but even that's a stretch. Though doom isn't really their thing, there is a drone element to their music, sort of like GODSPEED... (Efrim from GODSPEED... produced this record) if they were forced to make a record with just 3 people or SWANS trying out a more Kranky-like approach. Singer Robin Wattie has an interesting delivery, sort of like a female version of Jonsi from SIGUR ROS. Any fan of minimalist noise rock will appreciate this gem. RECOMMENDED!!
