Tape delay experiments from Chicago's BITCHIN' BAJAS. These guys are by no means trying to fill the big shoes of folks like Eno, Fripp or A.R. & Machines, but instead honoring their methods. Droning synths & some surprisingly straight-ahead guitar shredding. Sure they probably could have used a bunch of line-6 pedals, but that would be too easy right??? Another fine addition to their discography.

The voice: to say that BJORK put an emphasis on the sound the voice box, the tongue, and the jaw create once coalesced, for her latest release would be an understatement. When she went into the studio to begin work on her new album, she slowly started taking out the music for each track to leave only the voice. While this may seem meglomaniacal, the end results (thanks to programming from frequent collaborators MARK BELL & MATMOS) are an astonishing foray into the sounds of the mouth. Some tracks are soley acappella, while others feature the deep beat boxing skills of RHAZEL (Roots) and SHLOMO; elsewhere, the Iclandic choir, MIKE PATTON(!) and ROBERT WYATT(!!!) show up to add their unique vocal skills to a deeply affecting album of limitless grace and beauty. Another feather in her cap...GET IT!

ROYAL TRUX's Jennifer Herrema is back with a new project entitled BLACK BANANAS. Don't worry folks, the sleeze that you desire from Ms. Jennifer is here in spades despite the fact that there's something a little slick about some of recording at times. This is a frantic, alcohol-fueled sound frenzy that will please most TRUX fans for sure.

2009 disc from ex-RYE COALITION guys, continuing in the garage/soul vein from their debut. Strong pop sensibilities lift this above your average trash-rock album, with a nice retro vibe (check the organ lines!). RECOMMENDED!

James Blake, a Pitchfork aficionados artist through and through. It is funny how you can see the momentum building behind a particular artist or album until, finally, the album is released. This harkens back to the "good 'ol days" of music promotions and the excitement fans would experience during the weeks leading up to an album's release date. Today, you probably downloaded it months ago, but you're still here - calling about it, pre-ordering, and buying it! It just melts the cockles of our hearts to know music is still garnering interest that then prompts support. The cover art, not dissimilar to that of his Klavierwerke EP, contains the Feist cover "Limit To Your Love" (which can also be found on a one-sided 10") and ten other tracks that toe the genre lines of R&B, soul, and electronic music. The same could be said for the following artists: the relative new comer How to Dress Well, the sincere vocals of Antony and the Johnsons, the (obvious) similarities to Bon Iver (play the track "Woods" with the Blake's "Lindisfane 1" - it's like a auto-tuned duet!), and the god father of electronic glitchery Thom Yorke. There is something to be said for someone who so earnestly filters their influences into a concentrated effort. It will be interesting to see how Blake's 'fanship' develops into a truly unique voice. He has the potential and, apparently, everyone's attention.

Here is the higly anticipated 2007 release by BLOC PARTY. After just one listen you can hear a more cohesive & collected effort this album. There are still heavy electronic influences, which would not put another remix album out of the question. A well-mixed & polished effort compliments of producer JACKNIFE LEE (of U2 & Snow Patrol fame). A great reflection of the sounds & feelings of the metropolis. Quite contemporary soundscapes & themes. For fans of INTERPOL, TV ON THE RADIO, or ART BRUT.

Denver's BLOOD INCANTATION continue to push the boundaries of metal with their 2024 album "Absolute Elsewhere." The album starts off with some pretty traditional death metal but it quickly becomes apparent that they're on their own ship hurtling through the cosmos. Two side long tracks that explore progressive death metal, VOIVOD esque sci-fi metal, tasty David Gilmour style soloing along with other Floyd-isms, RUSH, nods at Klaus Schulze & modern bands like ZOMBI. This is one of those albums that's worth spending some time with, headphones on, while perusing the brilliant artwork & totally spacing out however you like to do that. RECOMMENDED.
